As a general practice we provide an array of preventative, restorative
and cosmetic services.
Dental Services
Preventative
You have likely heard the word "prevention" quite often in
recent years. Dental practioners and the industries associated with dental
care universally agree that the best thing we can do is help you avoid
the need for other kinds of dental care.
At Pure Dental, prevention is one of our core values, and is manifest
in our commitment to patient education and good dental hygiene.
Restorative
Unfortunately, there are times when prevention isn't enough, and procedures
to restore your teeth to their healthy state are necessary. We are also
committed to providing the best quality restorative dentistry, backed
by a commitment to current equipment and staff education, and further
backed by a commitment to patient education and comfort.
Cosmetic
We also provide a variety of cosmetic procedures to ensure that your
teeth are not only healthy, but are looking their best: porcelain onlays,
inlays, veneers, crowns and whitening. (see below)
Hospital Services
We also provide hospital-based services for the very young and elderlyrestorative
procedures for the young; and surgical procedures for the elderly and
those in need of general anesthetic.
Technology and Procedures
Sedation
Who is a good candidate?
Someone who has:
- fear &/or anxiety of the dentist
- had previous negative experiences at the dentist
- a large volume of work to be done
- complex treatment they need done (ie. wisdom tooth removal, implants, etc.)
How do I go about having treatment under IV sedation?
At your next dental visit discuss with your dentist that you would potentially like to have your dental needs addressed while under IV sedation. Your dentist will then thoroughly review your medical history, medications, etc., and collaborate with your medical doctor to determine if you are in fact a healthy enough candidate to receive dental treatment under IV sedation. If you have certain medical conditions your dentist may elect not to perform IV sedation, but rather have treatment done under general anesthetic in a hospital setting to ensure that you receive that safest care possible. Furthermore, children and adolescents who experience severe fear &/or anxiety, or who have large volumes of work to be done, will need to have treatment completed under general anesthetic.
What should I expect treatment to be like?
Upon determining that you are a candidate for IV sedation you will be asked to be accompanied by a responsible adult for your next dental visit. They should remain in the office for the duration of your appointment. You will be brought to the dental chair where your dentist will place an IV line into a vein typically on your hand or forearm. A medication will then be administered through the IV that will put you into a moderate sleeping state. At this point your dentist will begin to provide any necessary dental care that was agreed upon at the first appointment. While in this sleeping state you will be able to talk and respond to the dentist's commands but you will have no recollection of the experience. Upon completing any treatment the dentist will stop administering medication through the IV. At this point each individual will wake up from the medication at different rates depending on how quickly a person metabolizes the medications and the dose given. For the vast majority of the population they will wake up feeling quite fine, possibly just a little drowsy. However, your dentist will ensure that you are fully recovered and alert from the sedation before discharging you from the chair. Your dentist will escort you to the responsible adult you brought with you who will then drive you home and watch over you for the rest of the day. Because you have been moderately sedated you should not partake in any strenuous activity, operate heavy equipment, drive, or consume any alcohol during this recovery phase.
Ceramic Reconstruction (CEREC® III)
CEREC:Chairside
Economical
Restorations of
Esthetic
Ceramics
The CEREC system uses 3D imaging and ceramic milling technology to produce
fillings (inlays/onlays), crowns and veneers. These reconstructions preserve
the structural integrity of your teeth, are long-lasting and durable, and
are among the most cost-effective treatments available. The high-quality
process and materials maximize appearance, comfort and quality. The advanced
3D imaging process captures the contours of your original teeth, and there
are a variety of shades available to match your existing teeth. Best of all,
CEREC treatments only require one appointment. This means less time out of
your schedule, fewer injections, less drilling and no temporary
restorations. All of the necessary materials and equipment are onsite to
ensure that your treatment occurs as efficiently as possible with only one
visit.
Digital Xrays
Many things are going
digital lately, and Xrays
are no exception. They
offer a number of advantages
over conventional Xrays.
First, there is
less radiation involved
with digital Xrays. Second,
they don't require the
same chemical-based development
procedure as conventional
Xrays. Third, the Xrays
are stored electronically,
which makes it easier
to track the health of
your teeth over time. Fourth,
electronic storage and
transfer makes it easier
to send your Xrays to your
insurance provider
or specialists if necessary.
Fifth, some of our patients
tell us that the process
of taking digital Xrays
is a little more comfortable
for
them than conventional
Xrays were.
Intraoral Cameras
These cameras let us take pictures of areas of your mouth that are traditionally
difficult to get to. The first benefit is that we can put a picture of
a treatment area on the monitor in front of you so that we can explain
to you the procedures that need to take place, and you can see what we
are taking about. Like digital Xrays, the photos are also easily transferred
to insurance providers, specialists, and are easily stored eletronically
to create a history of your dental health.
Laser Dentistry
This technology serves a variety of roles. It is used: in soft tissue
management and cosmetic contouring; periodontic treatments; as an adjunct
to root canal procedures; in veneers and cosmetic dentistry, and in the
treatment of chancre (canker) sores and herpetic lesions.
Air Abrasion Dentistry
Air abrasion is a treatment that is part of the field of Microdentistry.
It is a gentle spray of air and powder that removes tooth decay. It eliminates
the need for the traditional drill, and in most cases, the needle associated
with the drill. See our patient education section for more information.
Rembrandt® Whitening Program
Safe and effective, one-hour, in-office bleaching program. There is
also a take home program for enhanced in-office results, or as an alternative.
This is the only oral care program that is clinically proven
to prevent loss of whitening when you follow proper, twice-daily brushing
instructions.
Patient Services
Through our core values, our commitment to current education and techniques,
and our concomitant investment in facilities and equipment, we are trying
to make one thing very clear: our patients come first.
We think of our patients as who they areour family, friends,
neighbours and the people we live and work with in our community. Our
intention is provide you with the same level of comfort and care that
your provide us in your offices and homes.
Family/Child friendly environment
Your pain pains us. It is important to us that you feel comfortable
and pain-free in our office. There is a saying in our office, "freezing
is cheap, pain isn't." It is also important that you tell us if
there is anything we can do to make your visits more comfortable.
Most of us at Pure Dental are parents ourselves, and we know how important
a child's early dental care habits are. We also know the critical role
that we can play as dental professionals. First through education, directly
with children, but also in ensuring that parents are aware of the key
aspects of their childrens' dental care. Secondly, we recognize that
early experiences in the dental office can have very lasting effects.
It is our commitment to make these early experiences good ones. (We often
draw upon the services of Tigger, Pepé le Phew, and Shamu to help
us with this.)
Overall patient comfort
Our commitment to patient comfort extends to patients who are no longer
children as well. We can offer sedation for comfort. If you find a particular
procedure is causing you discomfort, or has in the past caused you discomfort,
let us know, and we can discuss alternatives with you.
As we have remarked other places on this site, we keep current with
education, facilities, equipment and technique. This is for two very
important reasons: first, we can continue to improve the quality of dental
service, and second, we can improve the comfort of our patients.
